A Lawyer - Artist
SANJIT MUTHUSAMY started drawing when she was seven years old. The young artist used charcoal. Were her parents artists? They were not but they liked painting and encouraged her in her new found interest. When the little girl grew up she turned to oils - which remains her favourite medium – which resulted in Mac the Knife, which has remained her favourite painting. Mac the Knife was in the back of her mind as she painted the man playing the trumpet. Why the subject? I read an article on New Orleans and it inspired the painting, she explains
Monet is the painter who has inspired her most. He was her first
inspiration and remains her favourite. Monet was a perfectionist. His patience, his dedication to seeking
perfection is a constant inspiration to her.
When Sanjit mounted her first exhibition the sponsor was her husband, the
loyal admirer paid for the drinks and the cakes
Sanjit is also a lawyer, joining her husband’s profession in 1989
