This book is about the author's pioneering experiments on getting the best flavour and taste out of tea. It concentrates on the unglazed Yixing teapot. Those who have wondered why tea drinking is an "art" will find this book a useful, albeit provocative, introduction to the subject.

It is only after finding the right teapot that the moment arrives for the real enjoyment of the finer art of tea drinking, the more exalted state when the drinker finds himself wafted into the three stages of xiang, wei and yun, with Queshe, Huangshan Maofeng, Longjing, Wuloong, Shuixian and Wuyi, to name but some of the most excellent  teas.

His several and painstaking tests persuade the author to conclude that size is not relevant; that in truth one only needs a good teapot to get the best yun, or aftertaste; that colour alone is not enough to judge a teapot's affinity to tea; that teapots change their colour and shine according to this affinity; that the right teapot brings out the best in  the Teochew Dancong flavours, the different Wuyi teas, the rare Ta Hongpao, Shuixian, the pu'er, Qianli Xiang and Baimao Hou, and of course the green teas. 

 

This book boldly penetrates and disperses the misty myths and legends which lend the art of drinking Chinese tea its mysterious presence. Is Longjing enjoyed best out of a porcelain bowl? Not so;  the author proves that this traditional favourite displays its surpassing  excellence best brewed in a  light biscuit clay pot.

In a foreword to the book Mr. Yao Yue Ming, chairman of the Nan Ping Tea Association of Fujian Province, remarks that the author has turned a new page in the study of the art. Mr Yao, who has cultivated, processed and studied Wulong tea for 50 years describes the author's tests and findings as astounding and far reaching
