For some inexplicable reason the Penang Hill Railway keeps breaking down. If it is not overheating, it is a leakage of some sort; nowadays it has acquired the habit of brake fluid leakage  The annoying stoppages point to a lack of administration and a neglect of maintenance. The two are of a piece

Train at a Davos hill station

Its counter part in Davos Switzerland is more robust and like the Swiss rail and bus system never breaks down

Why is that? A serious investigation should be made and those who are found guilty of  tidak apa removed. It is not only the railway that is found wanting. The air conditioning in the waiting rooms are also crippled, frequently breaking down.

It is a sickness with us which spreads with influence and corruption. We see it in the neglect of the playground on the top of the hill, the sorry state of Tioman, damaged street lights that are left in disrepair, the dirt piling up in the streets and the drains, "rickety" buses, Batu Caves, the National museum restaurant, and the accumulating dirt;  the list grows.

To say that someone is deliberately planning it all to promote the cable car system is demeaning and pointless. If the railway is not efficient what assurance have we that the cable cars will run?

The Penang Hill Railway is a metaphor for Penang. To those in other parts of this country it is Penang. So let's not fool about. If it is lack of money, the elected assemblymen should do their job. If it is sheer laziness and carelessness we should fear not to use the boot. #
