| Appendices Vol. I, No. 16 (Saturday, 14 June 1806) Page 1 * Advertisement offering wines and perfumes (detailed) for sale by Court and Bone. * The Government Gazette: A salute of guns to be held in readiness for landing of Colonel MacAlister, Commander in Chief. Signed by J. Drummond, Town Major. * Brig Transfer (Captain Matthews) arrived in port 7 June from Salengore and Perah. * Ship Forth (Captain Taylor) arrived 8 June from Tringano and Malacca. * H.C. Ship Albion (Captain Benjamin Richardson) anchored in the harbour from Calcutta, whence she sailed on 22 May. Her salute to the flag of Sir Thomas Troubridge was returned by H.M. ship Fox. * By Albion came Col. N. MacAlister, Commander in Chief of this island, returned to resume his duties. * Other passengers included Mrs Green and Mrs Roberston, Captain Thomas Robertson, Engineer; Captain Green, Lieutenants Graham and Fraser, Artillery; Captain Porteous, and Lieut. McInnis, Gordon, Shipley and Black of the Marine Regiment. * Accounts from south note that the American ship Putnam, which struck a shoal near Lingen, is now on her broadside with almost all iron stripped. * Rice at Malacca is both cheap and plentiful. Little mart for goods further to the eastward. * Kadree (Captain Williamson) had returned to Malacca and sailed again for the coast of Pedier. * Mr Shank has been very unwell since his return to Malacca. Lieutenants Hadwin and Steiner were also ill but recovering. * Account of the "melancholy ravages of the small pox" particularly in Malacca, and the efforts at dealing with the scourge by vaccination. Hundreds of people have been vaccinated. Page 2 * Full account of the loss of schooner Betsey (75 tons), shipwrecked sailing from Macao to New South Wales. Lost at lat 9 48 N and long. 114 14 E. Crew was William Brooks commander, Edward Luttrell mate, one Portugueze gunner, three Portugueze feacunnies, three Manilla and four Chinese lascars. They sailed to Banguey, were attacked and some died. Survivors then sailed on to an island named Sube, where they were kept in slavery in the house of the Raja. Later went with the Raja to Rhio, where Mr Koek of Malacca treated them well. The ship Kaudree (Captain Williamson) took them to Malacca. * Calcutta Gazette of 15 May 1806: Colonel H.C. Palmer of the 12th regiment Native Infantry given permission to remain at Prince of Wales Island on account of his health. On 7 May, arrived off Calcutta the ship (Captain Peter Falconer) from Penang, whence she had sailed on 14 April. * Calcutta Gazette of 15 May also noted that the Rev Dr Claudius Buchanan, vice provost of the College of Fort William proceeded on his intended journey to Cochin and Travencore to investigate ancient Jews and Syrian Christians. Mr J.C. Leyden, recently employed by the Government of Fort George, accompanied Mr Buchanan. Page 3 * Loss of ship Marquis Wellesley bound from Calcutta to Bombay, by fire. 21 June 1806) Page 1 * Notice advising a Masonic meeting of the "Companions of the Ancient and Venerable Order of Harodim" at John Elliot's new house on the beach on 24 June. * Probate of will: Probate of last will of Philip Manington has been granted to Mr Nathaniel Bacon, merchant of George Town. Asks creditors and debtors of Mr Manington to contact said executor. * Advertisements of Court and Bone for wines and cosmetics (detailed). * Notice of sale by auction of the investment of Captain Richardson per the Albion. Includes wines, cloth, furniture, foodstuffs, bric-a-brac (detailed). * Government Gazette: Brig Letchmee (Captain E. Phillips) arrived on 14 June from Calcutta, whence she sailed 17 April. On 15 June, arrived ship Gilwell (Captain C.H. Bean), from Calcutta whence she sailed 4 May. * On 17 June, H.C. extra ships Northumberland (Capt. Raincock) and Euphrates (Captain Herbert) sailed for Calcutta. Gilwell (Captain Bean) sailed for China. * H.M. ship Fox (Hon. A. Cochrane) left harbour on 19 June. * On evening of 19 June, a fire broke out at Oojoong Passier, consuming 8 or 10 small houses. Government Gazette Extraordinary, dated Sunday, 22 June 1806 * Notes arrival of H.M. ship Caroline (P. Ranier Esq) from Madras, whence she sailed on 9 June, and news brought thereby from Europe. Vol. I, No. 18 (Saturday, 28 June 1806) Page 1 * Sale by auction by Court and Bone of Europe articles as detailed on page 1 of Vol. I, No. 17 (Saturday, 21 June 1806). * Probate of Will: Probate of last will and testament of Donald MacKenzie of George Town granted to Thomas Halyburton and Thomas Hutton, merchants of George Town. Debtors and creditors of Mr Mackenzie requested to contact executors. * Probate of Will for Philip Manington. As on page 1 of Vol. I, No. 17 (21 June 1806). * Announcement by Captain Groube, commanding ship Caroline bound for China, that he would execute commissions from China on usual terms. * Notice that Prince of Wales Island Club is to hold its monthly meeting on 1 July at Mr Nicholl's Hotel in Bishop Street. Mr Thomas M'Gee, president and Mr David Brown, vice president. Signed by Thomas M'Gee, secretary. * Notice of disposal by way of lottery of a piece of land with an upper-roomed brick dwelling and out houses, situated at the south side of China Street, bounded to the eastward by Teiqua and Hongbow's grounds, on the westward by King Street, on the northward by China Street, on the southward by China Baba Ho's grounds. Estimate at 31 square jumbas. Lately occupied by Mr Johannes Sarkis. A total of 75 tickets at 40 Spanish dollars each. Page 2 * Government Gazette: Lieutenant John McInnes of the 20th regiment Bengal Native Infantry appointed as Brigade Major to the troops serving under the presidency. Captain Robertson of the Bengal Engineers to take charge of the Engineering Department of this Presidency, dating from 1 April last. * Names of passengers who arrived on H.M. ship Caroline as noted in Extraordinary issue of 22 June 1806: Lieutenants Pigot and Sutherland, the Honourable ____ Maitland and Graham, for H.M. ship Blenheim and Mr Patrick Carnegy to join the house and firm of Messrs Carnegy, Clark and Co. * On 24 June, arrived the brig Martha (Capt King) of this port from Malacca, whence she sailed 20 June. Passenger Lieutenant S.R. Brown. During journey chased by French ship. Escaped by sailing through straits of Colong. * News from Malacca indicates that Admiral Hartsink was in Batavia harbour with four sail, and that one of his ships had been lost near Bantam. * On 25 June, ship Forth (Captain Taylor) quitted the harbour sailing for Pedier. * On 27 June, Danish brig Laconia (Captain De Almeida) arrived in harbour. Cargo piece goods and oil. * On the same day, brig Martha sailed for the coast of Pedier. * H.C. ships Albion (Captain B. Richardson), Europe (Captain W. Gelston), William Pitt (Captain Edmeads) and Streatham (Captain Dale) will leave for Calcutta in the coming week. |

5 July 1806) Page 1 * Sale by auction: By Court and Bone on 10 July. The property of Mr Donald Mackenzie, deceased. Mainly furniture (detailed). * Public Auction: Court and Bone offering quantities of brandy, rum, gin and Madeira. * Probate of Will. Probate of will of Mr Donald Mackenzie, and of Philip Manington as appeared on page 1 of Vol. I, No. 18 (28 June 1806). * Advertisement of watch and clock business conducted by E. Cabau, 236 Beach Street, Second Floor. * Advertisement for wines for sale by Court and Bone. * Government Gazette: Cutter Charlotte (Capt. Robertson) arrived on port on 1 July from Calcutta, via the west coast of Sumatra. * H.M ship Phaeton (Capt. John Wood) arrived in port on 2 July, having in convoy the following ships from Bombay: Albion (Capt. Cummings), Elizabeth (Capt. Astwith?), Thomas Henchman (Capt. Hodges), Cornwallis (Capt. Edburton?), Mysore (Capt. Dawson), Cumbrian (Capt. Learmouth), Gungava (Capt. Purvis), Lowajec Family? (Capt. Stewart), David Scott (Captain Gib), Frederick (Capt. Pringle) and Duncan (Capt. Brown). The above ships left Bombay under convoy of H.M. ship Terpsichore, which delivered them over to charge of Phaeton near Acheen Head. The James Drummond (Captain Stevens), and Fame (Captain Lautour) which formed part of the fleet, parted company with the convoy on 7 June, in latitude 15 on Malabar Coast. * The following gentleman arrived in the Presidency on above ships: Lieutenant Robertson, Lieutenant Whitehall and Lieutenant Stewart. * H.C. ship Albion (Captain Benjamin Richardson) sailed for Calcutta 4 July evening. Passengers Captain Dawson, Lieutenants Huthwaite and Herbert, and a part of the 20th Regiment. William Pitt (Capt W. Edmeads) sailed at same time, with passengers Captain Lambert, Lieutenant Wilson and Mr Trotter. The Streatham (Captain Dale) also sailed for Calcutta, as did the Europe (Captain Gelston). Passenger Miss White. * The ships lately arrived from Bombay, now under dispatch for China, will sail on Monday, 7 July, convoyed by H.M. Ship Phaeton. The Frederick (Captain Prince) will not go, and will be replaced by the Caroline (Captain Groube). Vol. I, No. 20 (Saturday, 12 July 1806) Page 1 * Sale by Auction by A. Macintyre on 14 July, the effects of Mr John Fitzgerald, deceased. All sorts of household items (detailed), as well as buggy, horses, cows etc. * Sale by Auction by A. Macintyre of the brig Letchmee, as she now lays under water. * Notice that the brig Eagle (Captain Webster) will sail to Calcutta this month. Freight invited by Messrs Carnegy, Clark and Co. * Administration of deceased estate: Creditors of Anna Booroo, deceased, are requested to state claims. Signed A. Claims on estate and notice of debtors invited. * Government Gazette: Notes that the brig Letchmee (Captain Phillips), recently arrived from Calcutta, blew up in the harbour and sank. Captain William Robertson of the cutter Charlotte was also on board at the time, and has not been heard of since. Captain Phillips and his chief officer are badly burned. * Brig Eagle (Captain Webster) arrived in harbour on 7 July from Calcutta whence she sailed on 3 June. Passengers: Messrs Clarke, Butler and Robertson. * On 8 July, H.M. ship Phaeton (Capt. J Wood) left harbour for China, giving convoy to the Bombay Fleet. Passengers in fleet included Lieutenant S.R. Brown for Malacca, and C.C. Mackintosh for China. * Brig Tweed (Captain Valence) anchored in harbour on 8 July from Malacca whence she had sailed on 3 July. * Brig Duchess of York arrived in harbour on 9 July from Malacca. She sailed for Calcutta on 11 July. * News from Malacca dated 3 July indicates that H.C. Oak with a detachment of European artillery and grain had not yet arrived. * H.C. extra ship Northumberland (Capt. Raincock) anchored in harbour on 10 July, having returned because of weather. * On 11 July arrived the Castlereagh (Captain P. Gardner) from Bombay whence she had sailed on 22 June. * Also arriving on 11 July was the ship Sarah (Capt. A Crawford) from Chittagong whence she sailed on 13 April. Cargo: rice. Vol. I, No. 21 (Saturday, 19 July 1806) Page 1 * Sales by Auction: On 19 July, an invoice of cutlery, to be auctioned by Court and Bone. * Auction by Court and Bone of remainder of property of Donald Mackenzie. * Public Auction by Court and Bone of the frame of a bungalow, "at present erected near to Captain Elliot's dwelling house. House is 72 feet long by 42 feet deep. * Sales by auction: By A. Macintyre at Mr Bacon's godowns in China Street, the property of the late Philip Manington. Mainly household goods. * Public auction by Court and Bone on 28 July of the house and ground of Mr Donald Mackenzie, deceased. His "pucka-built house, with godowns underneath". The grounds, bounded on the eastward by Hon. Company's square, 105 feet, Westward by Mr Caunter's ground 98 feet, northward by the aforesaid square and Mr Caunter's ground 140 feet, southward by Mr Lindsay's ground 121 feet, estimated to contain 84 1/2 jumbas. * Probate of will: Notice of probate of will of John Fitzgerald, as printed on page 1 of Vol. I, No. 20 (12 July 1806). * Government Gazette: General Orders by Government noting that the militia corps shall be disbanded and the post of Adjutant shall cease on 31 July. Arms are to be returned to the Honourable Company. Page 2 * The wreck of the brig Letchmee sold in public auction for 800 Spanish dollars to "a native". * Ship Scotland (Capt. Burns) arrived on 13 July from coast of Pedier. The Scotland advised that a small vessel manned by Chinese had been attacked by Malays and that seven had been killed. Captain Burns rescued the survivors. * The ships Frederick (Capt. Pringle) and Duncan (Capt. Brown) left harbour on 18 July for the coast of Pedier. The brig Active (Chinese Nocada Teehee) also left for Malacca. * Tide uncommonly high on 18 July resulting in various ships, including Portuguese ship Santa Cruz breaking their anchor ropes. |

(Saturday, 26 July 1806) Page 1 * Public auction by Court and Bone on 28 July of the house and ground of Mr Donald Mackenzie, deceased, as detailed on page 1 of Vol. I, No. 21 (19 July 1806). * Government Gazette: The brig Mungamah (Capt. W. Orr), from Bombay and Trincomalee, anchored in harbour on 20 July. She had left Bombay on 25 May with China fleet and Trincomalee on 9 July. * On 22 July, the Swallow (Capt. Scott) anchored in harbour from Malacca after journey of 50 hours. The China fleet, under convoy of H.M. ship Phaeton, was still in Malacca when the Swallow left, awaiting the arrival of Cumbrian. Swallow passed Cumbrian at Cape Rachado after leaving Malacca, so assumption is that fleet sailed for China on 21 July. * H.C. brig Oak, (Capt. Winther), arrived at Malacca after journey of 52 days. Vol. I, No. 23 (Saturday, 2 August 1806) Page 1 * Notice of public auction by Court and Bone of the house and ground of Mr Donald Mackenzie, deceased, on 4 August, as detailed on page 1 of Vol. I, No. 21 (19 July 1806). Date of auction revised to 4 August. * Notice: Messrs Edward Capes and Daniel Carroll inform that they have entered into a co-partnership under the firm of Capes and Carroll, and will engage in business of General Agents and Auctioneers at the rooms now fitting upon the premises of Messrs James Scott and Co. Business to commence on 15 August. * Notice: Thomas Perkins informs the public that he intends to practice the business of auctioneer at his large godown in Beach Street. * Government Gazette: On 27 July arrived the brig Fancy (Captain Crisp) from Bombay whence she sailed on 8 July. * On 28 July arrived in harbour the ship La Fortune (Captain Bontine), from the coast of Pedier. She had left Rangoon on 9 June with cargo of teak timber for Bombay. At Acheen Head, she collided with American ship Laurel which had left this port. Likely that the Lauren had sunk. * Chooliah Grab arrived in harbour on 29 July. She informed that the ship Retaliation, prize to H.M. ship La Dedaigneuse (Captain Duer) and which had lately been sold from this port to the Arabs, had been captured on the Malabar coast and burnt by a French privateer. * The Swallow (Captain Scott) left the harbour for the coast of Pedier on 30 July. * The grab brig Transfer (Capt. Anchant) anchored in the harbour on 31 August, from Pedier. * On 1 August arrived the Arab sloop Aubausy from Malacca. * Murder: on or about 4 July, a prow commanded by Mahomet Cundoo, inhabitant of Malacca, sailed for Malacca with passengers Mr Lodowyk Detz and attendants. In 8 days, they reached Parcelar. On morning of 12 or 13 July, two of the crew Inchee Arras and Inchee Baha murdered Mahomet Cundoo and Mr Detz. Forced the crew to go to Perah where they went onshore with two boys Adam and Duol, plundering the prow and abandoning her. The crew set sail back to Penang and arrived on 30 July. Page 6 * The H.C. brig Oak (Capt. Winter) anchored in the harbour on 1 August. They inform that ship Varuna (Capt. Dennison) arrived in Malacca on 24 July and that brig Tweed (Capt. Valence) sailed from there on 26 July to the eastward. * Also on 1 August arrived H.M. ship Fox (Hon. A. Cochrane) from a cruize. That evening arrived the ship Dundee (Capt. H. Ross) and the brig Martha (Capt. King) from the coast of Pedier, with cargoes of beetlenut. They advised that Frederick (Capt Pringle) was on the coast.
